Don Bugito, the Pre-Hispanic snackeria, is a company that focuses on planet-friendly protein snacks, featuring delicious edible insects in savory and sweet flavors. Don Bugito is a proud member of La Cocina incubator’s program and the Good Food Merchants Guild and recently joined the Artisans Aggregate to contribute to a more sustainable edible insect farming.
Monica Martinez is an industrial designer, educator and entrepreneur whose creative work explores ideas about food production, storage and economics. Her work includes Don Bugito, a food business focus on edible insects and sustainability, sculptures, installations, mixed media drawings and architectural designs. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her work has been reviewed by Nova PBS, PRI’s The World, Here & Now, Sierra Magazine and the New York Times to mention few.
Monica is a native of Mexico City and received her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009. Prior to this she attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. Monica is a fellow of the MacDowell Colony of New Hampshire and the Sculpture Space in New York. She currently resides in San Francisco, California where she is teaching classes as a Senior Lecturer at the California College of the Arts.
